Following a lifetime in the sport of sailing and having sailed most of the established sailing areas worldwide we firmly believe that the Mar Menor remains one of sailings best kept secrets. Previously operating as Team Unlimited we are now back…older, wiser and at an incredible new venue. Over 170 square kilometres of lagoon, 350 days of sun and enviable wind statistics make the Mar Menor a unique sailing venue. By flying due south from the UK for a little over 2 hours you arrive at the conveniently located airports of Alicante (75km) and San Javier (Murcia) (5km) making the journey extremely convenient.

Having arrived at the Mar Menor we have located our sailing school at what is undoubtedly one of Europe’s best equipped National Sailing Centres. CAR Infanta Cristina is the region of Murcia’s High Performance Centre of Excellence and is a facility that is in our opinion un-equalled in all of Europe, particularly when you consider it’s privileged location, right on the shores of the Mar Menor.  Link http://www.carmurcia.es/planoeng.html

CAR Infanta Cristina is situated in the large town of Los Alcazares, which is a fusion of an old style haven for Spanish Tourists and the recently developed infrastructure supporting the recent property and tourism boom which the area has experienced over the past 10 years. The town has everything and more for a great sailing holiday and is perfectly located for the nearby San Javier airport.

Wind and Weather.

The weather and climate around the Mar Menor is excellent. The Mar Menor enjoys more than 2,800 hours of sunshine each year with an average annual temperature of 19.3 degrees Celsius. That means a lot of sunny sailing days per year!

Of more interest to the sailors are the wind stats.

The weather is what many people travel to the area for. Due to the flat plains surrounding the Mar Menor and the distant Murcian Hills a micro- climate has been created which produces very reliable thermal winds which generally increase throughout the day. There are obviously some seasonal variations but historically very few days on which you cannot sail. In our experience of working, sailing and living here for many years the breeze is pretty reliable!

The Sailing area.

Gently shelving sandy beach or straight from the dock are the choices and with warm water, good breeze and an awesome sailing area of 170 square kilometers awaiting, the Mar Menor really is amazing. We generally restrict our sailing area for safety and to ensure good quality coaching but the waters are never over-crowded (even in peak season) so there is always plenty of scope for learning new skills and ensuring a good run off area for when it does not go quite to plan.
